OMG… Blogging is so not a priority for me as of late. I feel bad… real bad for my what?? 3 readers ??? (Is it wrong I subscribe to my own blog via Google Reader?? Don’t answer that)
So the Thanksgiving Holiday…
- I had a one day work week the week of Thanksgiving. Due to one vacation day, two corporate holidays and a furlough day… well.. that only left Monday. * Man it was hard to come back to work this week.
- Thanksgiving was held at the Engineer’s parents cabin in Northeast Middle Tennessee. It was delightful. The place is literally in the middle of nowhere, and therefore, there is very little pressure to do ANYTHING. We spent the weekend noshing on delicious foods, playing board games, reading, and catching up on newly released movies. AWESOME
- I made a world class apple pie using the recipe form my former coworker, The Pie Guru. I made the crust with lard and it was very tasty.
- My mother was vising my grandmother in Santa Clara this year so my father was on his own. I know.. sad right?? He took the RV out and did a little camping during the weekend. He also came to visit us at the cabin on Friday and my mom returned home on Saturday.. so he really wasn’t ALONE.
- Hip-A and her boyfriend were also in attendance. I love to give the boyfriend a hard time.. since we’re both ‘black sheep’ of the fam. The two of them killed everyone in 80’s Trivial Pursuit (which wasn’t that hard since the Engineer and I were wee children during the first 1/2 of the decade).
- Lux and Tink were not in attendance. They did; however, get married on 11/1 in Atlanta. It was a great wedding… tons of fun. Congrats to them!
- Saturday, the Engineer and I left the peaceful cabin and headed back to Ktown. We stopped to look for some furniture on our way home. We plan on using some of the Engineer’s bonus check to buy some new living room furniture since ours is (a) piece milled and (b) in horrible shape (our cats have practically devoured our sofa).
- We fell in LOVE with some Stickley chairs but at $2300/per (and we’d need 2 chairs… and that was the SALE price), I just couldn’t do it. I mean… I love me some Stickley furniture but man.. at 28 with no kids YET… I think we’re too young for this kind of investment (plus.. the first time someone sat in the chair and plopped down a beverage on the wooden arm without a coaster, I’d probably go nutso and I think $2300 chairs are best purchased after the children understand that markers and furniture don’t go well together)
- I was planning to spend 1/2 the day Saturday and the whole day Sunday putting up the Christmas tree. FAIL!! The 1/2 Saturday day went to furniture and the Tennessee/Kentucky game and Sunday… well.. I don’t remember where Sunday went.. but the tree isn’t up so something must have happened.
That pretty much sums of the holiday weekend. We had a great time visiting with the family, relaxing, and noshing on all the food (plus side.. no weight gain. WOOT!!).
* For those of you (read: one of my three readers) who didn’t know, the company I work for has fallen on hard times. Our current economy doesn’t really favor to luxury products right now. Soo… the solution to keep from ‘going under’ or ‘having to borrow funds at an extremely high interest rate at the beginning of Q12009′ was to force the current workforce to take a 20% pay cut until the end of the year. Thankfully, this only equalled 8 work days and my company isn’t a complete sadist and they aren’t forcing us to work that time without pay. Essentially, beginning the first week of November until the week of January 5th, I have 4 day work weeks (or 1 day furloughs). Yip-fucking-ieee. Thank God the Engineer is teaching this semester and we have extra flow. Nothing says “We love our Employees” like forcing a 20% pay cut just in time for the holidays. **
** To add insult to injury.. yesterday we got a flyer announcing a deep discount on some products we manufacture. I think the verbage was something like “Discounts this low have never been offered to employees and may never been seen again. Up to 55% off!!! Buy now!!!”. Umm… hey asshats!!?? Really???? REALLY??? Go pound sand.

Joey is still extremely anal about our leather couches and coffee tables…I really think that is why he doesn’t want kids..
Hang in there girl….something will come along…
